HERE'S THE LATEST ON WEATHER/ MAKE-UP SESSIONS!
January is always our toughest month for cold weather. Our pool heaters are working well, but we came off several very cold nights and cold days in early January that caused us to miss a few practices. Other teams go through similar issues each winter, and we've actually been hosting another local team for the past week, as their heaters are completely down and their water is in the mid-60s.
All that being said, we're doing really well. The coaches are keeping the kids moving, and the water has been consistently 79-80 degrees at the coolest (we ideally strive for 81-82 degree water). Tuesday, January 21 is hopefully our last really cold day and night, please stay tuned for a possible cancellation, depending on how the weather plays out.
When we went through our VERY cold days and nights a couple of weeks ago, I built in a few make-up sessions for the month. Here's an update on that, as there are some changes:
AG1-AG2 and AG3: We are scheduled for 11 am til noon on Jan 18, 19, and 26; HOWEVER . . . there is a good likelihood of rain/ possible storms on the the 18th and 19th, so please stay tuned via Remind texts (go to our News tab to find how to join these texts, if you haven't already). If it's just rain, and we have warm water, we'll swim.
AG4 and AG5: We planned to do two makeup sessions on the 19th and 26th; however, we already did one last Friday. Instead of the 19th and 26th, we'll simply do one more date, and that will be on Friday, the 24th, at 5 to 6:30/ 7 pm for AG4 and AG5.
Thanks for your patience with this. I've coached a ton of very good swimmers over the years, and trust me---when all is said and done, they never look back at a handful of cancelled days as having had any effect on their long-term development.
At Seminole Aquatics, it's ALL about the long-term . . . happy, healthy younger swimmers end up coming to my SR Group excited about swimming for their high school teams, and those are the ones that have the best shot of making it through college swimming, should that be their goal.
Thanks,
Tony Ackerson, Seminole Aquatics
